The incident took place in Sullivan County in Lake Kiamesha around 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 19 on Route 42.

According to Sullivan County Undersheriff Eric Chaboty, deputies responded to the scene of a vehicle crash and found a 2022 Toyota Prius in a ditch and Robert Forgione, of Loch Sheldrake, sitting on the ground against the car.

When deputies determined he was unresponsive, they administered two doses of Narcan, Chaboty said.

As Forgione regained consciousness he became combative and started fighting with the deputies. During the melee, a detective was struck in the face and a deputy was bitten on the arm, Chaboty said.

Forgione was arrested and charged with:

  • Felony assault
  • Driving while impaired by drugs
  • Resisting arrest
  • Obstructing governmental administration

He was arraigned in the Town of Thompson court and released on his own recognizance pending a future court date.
